The Alberta Fire Code mandates that every business premises must be equipped with at least one fire extinguisher, though more may be required depending on many different factors. Fire extinguishers are used successfully to put out hundreds of fires every day, preventing millions of dollars in property damage and, more importantly, saving lives. This course will begin by introducing participants to fire safety in a classic classroom setting. Your instructor will first lay the groundwork for understanding fire safety, including recognizing when it is time to act and use a fire extinguisher.

The second portion of your training will be dedicated to a hands-on, practical experience utilizing the BullsEye Digital Fire Extinguisher Training System – a laser-driven fire extinguisher trainer. It provides the ability to immerse the learner in a lifelike scenario but within the safety of a controlled setting. This combination will help participants to gain the confidence needed to apply their knowledge in an emergency.

learning Objectives

This course will provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to:

  • safely and effectively operate a portable fire extinguisher with confidence,
  • understand the difference between a Responder vs. a Fire Fighter,
  • know when to fight a fire and when to evacuate,
  • understand the importance of an Emergency Response Plan,
  • be aware of and understand the burn process,
  • classify different types of fires,
  • effectively understand the inspection and maintenance processes,
  • understand and be aware of the risks of grass fires, and
  • be prepared in the event of a Field Worksite Fire.

Training Recommendation:

This course is recommended for anyone who works in a position that may require the use of a fire extinguisher, or who may want to prepare themselves for an emergency fire scenario.
