On October 12, 2013 a life was forever changed, and a business suffered severe loss.   Please read the link which is a letter from Michael Sheppard explaining how quickly and easily one’s world can be turned upside down.  The possibility of equipment failure is often unforeseen, or not taken into consideration, therefore management must be diligent in researching suppliers and training of employees.

Because of this tragic event, Alberta Association for Safety Partnerships (AASP) has, under the Courts Creative Sentencing program, been awarded the $50,000 fine and selected to work with all employers in the Alberta WCB 87600 Industry Code to develop a Best Practices Manual.  This industry code is large and diverse, everything entertainment fall under this Code, includes fishing tours, amusement parks, golf courses, tour companies, RV Parks, water excursions  and more.

AASP will be contacting all employers listed with WCB under the 87600 Industry Code to ask for their input in developing this manual.  We anticipate the project to formally kick off in Calgary late January 2018 with a meeting of employers willing to come to the table and share ideas.  The goal is to have the project completed by the end of 2018.

AASP is extremely pleased that Michael Sheppard from ScreamWorks will be an active participant on the development committee. Michael brings a wealth of knowledge and learnings to the table that all will benefit from and welcomes employers of this Industry Code to join us.
